Artist Statement

Over the shoulder view of a woman sitting outside painting, she is putting her paintbrush in the water with her paper and paint palette on her lap.

The Sonoran Desert offers endless inspiration to me. I’m drawn to the native botanicals and unique landscapes found there and using watercolors I capture them in a playful, realistic style. By slowing down and observing the plant or scene I’m painting, I feel grounded and more connected to my surroundings with a larger connection to the Sonoran Desert as a whole. I particularly feel this while painting on one of my hikes. Being outside in nature while painting offers a unique perspective and unleashes a special kind of creativity I use to capture the unexpected beauty found in the desert.

I hope when you look at my artwork you see the Sonoran Desert in a new way, noticing colors or details you may have overlooked. I did not expect to fall in love with the desert yet it has my heart and I hope my artwork reflects that passion.
